Anthony Joshua agrees to deal to face Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia

Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua will face Mix Martial Art (MMA) star Francis Ngannou in a boxing match this year.

Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed this on his X account.

Ngannou shocked the world in his professional boxing debut when he defeated World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight champion Tyson Fury last October.

However, Fury recovered from the knock down to win on points via split decision.

But Ngannou is back to face another British heavyweight, Anthony Joshua, who is rebuilding his career after successive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk.

On Friday night it was revealed that Joshua and Ngannou had signed an agreement for a ten-round fight to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The fight was confirmed by Hearn, who wrote: “Tonight we confirm it’s a done deal! @anthonyjoshua x @francis_ngannou collide on a big night out in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – press conference January 15th in London with full details coming soon!”

Meanwhile, English businessman and promoter Frank Warren also confirmed the fight.

“Another historic night for @RiyadhSeason!

“Press conference and news about fight dates coming soon. I can’t wait for it all to start!”

It has not been confirmed when the fight will take place, however, it is reported that March 9, when Joshua was supposed to face Deontay Wilder, is the announced date.

Anthony Joshua enters this show with three victories in 2023, the last of which came in December, with an impressive victory over Otto Wallin.
