Akwa Ibom Finance, Appropriations Committee working with MDA on 2024 budget


The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Expenditure has announced the initiation of liaison with all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the state to ascertain the level of implementation of the 2023 budget.

The Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Itoro Etim, who met with parliamentary correspondents on Thursday, surrounded by other members, said that knowing how the 2023 budget was implemented, the 2024 budget presented by the governor on Tuesday He said financial estimates would be available for consideration by the committee.

The lawmaker also ensured that the budget would be legally scrutinized and approved seamlessly to fast-track the state’s development in line with the government’s Arise Agenda.

However, she sought the support and cooperation of MDAs heads during budget defense exercises and project site monitoring visits by members of Congress.

she said: “We want to know what happened with the last budget and how it was implemented.Of course we will submit the report to the House and from there the next step is to pass the budget. It will then be forwarded to the Executive Directorate for approval.”

Also speaking on behalf of the Parliamentary Press Corps, the Chairman’s Spokesperson, Elder Emmanuel Ebong, assured that the Parliamentary Press Corps stands ready to provide effective media coverage of the activities of the members during the budget defense session.

He advocated regular media interface with parliamentarians to promote the projection of a positive image.
