AFCON 2025 Draw: Super Eagles advance to Pot 1

The Super Eagles have been placed in Pot 1 ahead of the draw for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) published the draw procedures on its official website on Wednesday.

According to CAF, the top-ranked countries in the latest FIFA rankings, released on June 20, 2024, will be placed in Pot 1.

The Super Eagles are currently ranked as the fifth best team on the continent.

Pot 1 also includes hosts Morocco, Senegal, Algeria, Tunisia, Côte d'Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Mali, South Africa, Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

As a result of the draw for the preliminary round, the teams will be divided into 12 groups of four teams each (Groups A to L), and the first and second place teams from 11 groups, excluding host country Morocco, will qualify to participate in the tournament.

The draw will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa on Thursday.

The AFCON 2025 Final will be held from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026.
