AFCON 2023: Soje expresses displeasure with Super Eagles team

Former Super Eagles defender Sam Sodje is not satisfied with the Super Eagles squad composition for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Coach Jose Peceiro last week announced the 25-man squad for this tournament.

However, Coach Sogier believed that the team was unbalanced due to the lack of creative players.

“We will go into AFCON with an unbalanced team. We have too many strikers. There is a lack of creativity in midfield to create opportunities for players to pass the ball forward and win games.” he told Brilla FM.

The former Reading centre-back also expressed concerns in the team's defensive and goalkeeping department.

Soje hinted that a solid defense will help the team do well in the tournament.

“We have too many players passing from the side, no disrespect to the players, we are conceding goals left, right and center. We need to stop doing that because solid defense is the criterion for winning tournaments. is.

“Also, it's no secret that we have problems in the goalkeeping department.

“When you put all this together, there is reason to be concerned, but we are Super Eagles fans and we support them,” Sodje said.
