AFCON 2023: Peseiro reveals why he included Nwabiri in Super Eagles squad

AFCON 2023: Former Eagles midfielder supports Peseiro in team selection

Former Super Eagles midfielder Sylvanas Okpara has backed head coach Jose Peceiro on player selection for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Peseiro announced his squad for the tournament last week.

The Portuguese has been criticized for leaving out the likes of Terem Mofi and Kelechi Nwakali.

The manager's decision to also include captain Ahmed Musa and vice-captain William Troost-Ekon has not been well received in some quarters.

However, Okpara, a former Super Eagles assistant coach, has supported Peseiro's choice.

“I don't want to question the coach's selection of players. It's his discretion to pick who he wants to pick and leave out who he wants to take out,” Okpara told Brilla FM.

“Each player has different characteristics, so you have to choose based on your strategy, the formation you want to play.

“That's how he has to select players. That's why I don't want to question the coach's selection, who they selected, who they didn't select. So it's up to the coach to do the rest. Just leave it to me.”
