Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke has tasked his cabinet to prepare a detailed budget defense before the Osun House of Assembly.
The governor also advised his aides to ensure that the drafted administrative bill is submitted to Parliament in a timely manner.
Adeleke said this in a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, in Osogbo on Wednesday.
He said full cooperation with Congress is paramount to expediting the budget process in line with Congress’ schedule.
“We have a nation to govern. We need to deliver a five-point agenda. There is no room for distraction. All ministers must ensure successful budget hearings in Parliament. I need to get my work together.
“Also, please provide the relevant House committees with all information necessary to review and approve your proposal.
“I have full confidence that Congress understands the fiscal and economic considerations behind the proposed 2024 budget.
He said the administration recognizes that innovative ideas are being introduced that may require new laws or amendments to existing laws.
“In this regard, I would like to direct MDA on the upcoming administrative legislation to speed up internal processes.
“Three of these bills are of great importance to the good of our country. A bill to domesticate Nigeria’s Start-up Act should be introduced in Parliament without delay. It holds the key to revitalization and diversification.
He said the Osun Power Market Bill was important to the state and the resolution was reached to move faster to pass the bill into law without delay.
“Also of equal importance is a bill to harmonize state tax systems. Our government wants to end multiple taxation and widen the tax base with lower tax rates.
Mr. Adeleke, however, directed the Ministry of Justice and all affected MDAs to work closely to ensure that the bill reaches the state House of Assembly for early passage.
