Ogun State Governor, Mr. Dapo Abiodun and former Governor of the state, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, have paid their heartfelt condolences to the late Ogun State Major General. Ekundayo Opalie is a former military governor of Ondo State.
Opalie, who served as military governor from August 1986 to 1987 during the General Ibrahim Babangida (RTD) regime, passed away on Saturday in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Mr. Abiodun described the late Mr. Opalie as a patriotic soldier and an exemplary administrator, and acknowledged the great contribution Mr. Opalie made to the country and expressed his gratitude for his achievements.
Similarly, Amosun also expressed his sadness at the loss of Opalie, whom he praised as a famous son of the Owu kingdom and a dedicated soldier. He highlighted Opalie’s selfless service in the Nigerian Army where he served in various military missions in Nigeria and Africa.
Mr Amosun recalled Opalie’s unwavering commitment to the development of Owu Kingdom, Egbaland and Ogun State. He offered his thoughts and prayers to Opalie’s family as they mourn his passing, and expressed condolences to the Olowu people of Owu, the Balogun people of Owu, the Traditional Council of Chiefs of Owu and the Nigerian Army on the loss of their valued members. He prayed for eternal peace for his deceased and for strength for his family to bear the loss.
