A compromised judiciary is dangerous – Bode George

Chief Olabode George, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has condemned the new trend of judges to reverse the electoral victory of politicians.

He made his comments in reaction to the controversy surrounding the verdict of the Court of Appeal in Kano State.

The appeal court has nullified the election of Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State by declaring Gawuna the winner of the gubernatorial election in the state.

But in a turn of events, when the certified copy, CTC, of ​​the judgment, was released, it showed that the Court of Appeal confirmed Yusuf as governor of Kano.

The Court of Appeal attributed the discrepancy to an administrative error.

Reacting to this, George said it was sad to see that Nigerians no longer trust the judiciary.

Addressing a press conference in Lagos, the PDP chief said:

“This system is worrying because if people no longer believe in the third arm of government, anarchy approaches.

“Obviously, the unholy alliances between some politicians and judges are dangerous for our democracy. Millions of people will go out on election day, line up, collect ballot papers and vote for their preferred candidates, the results will be announced and everyone will celebrate just for three, five or seven judges to overturn popular opinion. will of the people.

“The best thing the Judiciary should do in political cases is to judge and, where there are discrepancies, order a new dispute without giving victory to party A or B.

“It is wrong to take away from the electorate the power to elect political leaders and for the judiciary to tell us who the winners are. This is not good for Nigeria. This is not good for our electoral system. A compromised judiciary is dangerous.”
