8 people killed in Kwara car accident


At least eight persons were reportedly killed in a motor vehicle accident on Friday at Oke Onibin, along the Omu Alan-Ilorin Expressway in Irepodun Local Government Area of ​​Kwara State.

“A fatal accident occurred on Friday night at Oke-Onigbin along Om-Aran-Ilorin Road,” a statement issued by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Divisional Public Relations Officer, Busari Basambo, in Ilorin, the state capital, on Saturday said. Irepodun Local Government Area of ​​Kwara State, at about 7:40 p.m. The accident involved a Mack trailer and a Mitsubishi bus. ”

Personnel from the FRSC Standby and Rescue Team from Om Aran Force Headquarters were immediately dispatched to the scene.

“Preliminary investigation by the team revealed that a Mitsubishi Space Wagon bound for Ilorin collided with an oncoming Mack trailer while overtaking the bus.

“As a result, a total of eight people, one adult man, three adult women and four children, died on the spot, while six others sustained various degrees of injuries,” the PRO said.

He said the body was placed in the Om Aran mortuary.

He said further investigation revealed the accident was caused by speed, illegal overtaking and poor visibility.
