A 53-year-old man, Usman Ahmadu, has been arrested by police in Adamawa State on suspicion of assaulting a mentally disabled minor.
Usman Ahmadu, said to be from Maiduguri in Borno State, lives as an Internally Displaced Person (IDP) in Saminaka community in Yola North Local Government Area on the outskirts of Yola.
Usman Ahmadu, who is currently in custody at the state police command, has confessed to sexually assaulting a mentally disabled girl four times since 2021.
A statement from the state police command disclosing the incident said the state police commissioner, Afolabi Babatola, has ordered a diligent investigation and prosecution of the incident.
A statement issued Thursday morning by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, quoted the party assuring that there is no hiding place for criminals in Adamawa State.
Police did not say the age of the minor who was assaulted.
Neighbors who commented on the actions of the suspect, who is currently in police custody, said the suspect, who has lived for years on the generous charity of the Saminaka community as an internally displaced person, is a vulnerable minor. He said the attack on the person was brutal.
