A 41-year-old man, Stephen Ihyomu, appeared before the Ojo Magistrate’s Court in Lagos on charges of reckless driving causing death.

The defendant is currently on trial before Judge LKJ Laieni on three counts of dangerous driving on a restricted highway and near causing death.

However, he pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Dr Simon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the crime on November 1 on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

The accused alleged that the accused, who was the driver of the TVS motorcycle, drove the same in a dangerous manner on a regulated highway without observing traffic rules.

Prosecutors argued that the defendant’s reckless driving resulted in the death of Paulinus Ibe, a 72-year-old man.

He said the offense was in violation of the provisions of Section 19 of the Lagos State Laws of 2015.

He said this was also in violation of the provisions of Section 20 of the Lagos State Traffic Law of 2015.

The court granted the defendant bail in the sum of NOK 1 million, with two sureties of the same amount, and adjourned the case until December 11 to obtain legal advice from the Prosecutor General’s Office.
