24-year-old housewife stabs man to death in Kano, claims he tried to stop her from committing suicide
The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old housewife, Hafsat Surajo, for stabbing Nafiu Hafiz to death at Unguwa Uku in Tauranin Local Government Area of the state.
Spokesperson of the command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday, December 22, 2023, said Hafsat confessed that she stabbed the deceased in various parts of his body with a knife while he was stopping her of committing suicide.
The PPRO further revealed that the woman's husband, Dayyabu Abdullahi, and her doorman, Mallam Adam, were arrested for packing and hiding the corpse.
“On 21/12/2023 at about 07:00 hours, a report was received from one Hafizu Salisu of Bauchi metropolis in Bauchi State that he received a phone call from one Dayyabu Abdullahi ‘m’ of Unguwa Uku Quarters Kano that their brother, one Nafi’u Hafiz , aged 38, is dead and that they should come and transport the corpse for burial,” the statement read.
“When they arrived at the residence in Unguwa Uku Quarters Kano, they discovered several injuries on different parts of the lifeless body, suspected to be stab wounds.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, FIPMA, psc has directed the Divisional Police Officer, Zaria Road Division, SP Abubakar Chika Zaki, to lead a team of detectives to the scene and conduct a preliminary investigation.
“Upon the arrival of detectives at the crime scene, the motionless body was removed from the scene and rushed to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital where a doctor certified the body as dead.
“Further investigation led to the arrest of 24-year-old Hasfat Surajo, the housewife of the residence where the deceased lived.
“Further investigation at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department obtained a confession from Hafsat, who admitted to having committed the act alone, stabbing the deceased in various parts of her body with a knife, while he was stopping her from committing suicide.
“Her husband, Dayyabu Abdullahi, aged 38, ‘m’, of the same address, and her doorman Mallam Adam, aged 65, were arrested for packing and hiding the corpse and the cloak.
“However, through discreet investigation, the knife with a blood stain resulting from the crime was recovered. The suspect will be brought to court after the investigation is completed.”
