1. Former President of the Nigerian Senate, David Mark has expressed displeasure over the communal crisis between Otukpo and Obi local government areas of Benue State.
In a statement by his special adviser on media, Paul Mumeh, which he made available to journalists on Friday in Abuja, Mark described the crisis as unfortunate and urged the warring groups to sheathe their swords.
2. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has warned that any of its personnel caught engaging in activities to undermine the coming Governorship and State Assembly election will face prosecution and committed to prison.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, for Benue State, Prof. Sam Egwu sounded the warning on Thursday in a statement issued in Makurdi.
3. The Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate for Benue State, Mr Herman Hembe has denied report that his party has endorsed the Benue State Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) candidate, Mr. Titus Uba in the governorship election in Benue state.
According to Hembe, the said endorsement came to his knowledge through sponsored radio and media announcements by the PDP that he had stepped down.
4. The Igede and Idoma Communities residents in Kaduna have expressed sadness over the recent clashes between some communities in Obi and Otukpo LGA of Benue State.
Engr. Ejoga Inalegwu and Elder Sunday Oibe, concerned natives of the communities, in a statement on Friday, called on the government to ensure the deployment of security to the affected communities so as to stop any attempt to escalate the situation.
5. The Supreme Court on Thursday in Abuja affirmed Herman Lorwase Hembe as the lawful governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Benue State for the coming March 18 gubernatorial poll.
The apex court dismissed an appeal brought before it by Benjamin Lorlumum and one other, seeking the disqualification of the respondent from the governorship race on various grounds.
6. Phillip Agbese, the house of representatives member-elect for Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo federal constituency of Benue, has urged the residents of the state to vote for Hyacinth Alia, the All Progressive Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate on March 18.
Speaking during a media parley in Abuja on Thursday, Agbese said electing Alia will put an end to bad leadership and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) maladministration in the state.
