2023 AFCON: 'If we had superstars like in the 90s and early 2000s, we could understand'
Former Nigerian international, Sunday Oliseh has called for the inclusion of more players from the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) in the Super Eagles ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Oliseh made this known via his official X (formerly known as Twitter), where he took aim at the coach of the Super Eagles, José Peseiro's provisional team for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which only had three NPFL players.
Oliseh wrote on his account above.”
He further added: “Haba, they just want to eliminate everything domestic in favor of the football business! It's time to act!!
His comments came after Odion Ighalo on Thursday expressed his disappointment at the limited inclusion of local players in the Super Eagles provisional squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Ighalo believes that local players deserve greater representation in the national team, as there is a lack of balance between local and foreign players in national football teams.
