13-year-old girl kidnapped by unknown gang while returning from school in Lagos
A 13-year-old student, Miracle Adereti, was abducted by an unknown gang while walking home from school last Friday, December 1, 2023, in Ikotun area of Lagos State.
Her father, Adereti Oluwadare Segun, said he left Miracle and her younger sister at the bus stop where the school bus usually picks them up in the morning, before heading to work at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), where he serves as a communications communicator. air traffic of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).
He received a distressing call in the afternoon informing him of his daughter's kidnapping.
The incident was reported at Afonka Police Station in Egbeda, Alimosho, Lagos, on the same day.
Witnesses reported that the gang followed the school bus, parked a short distance from the bus stop, waited for the bus to depart, and kidnapped Miracle as she and her sister walked home.
Adereti, while speaking to journalists, said: “We woke up early to get the children ready for school before I dropped them off at the bus stop. We had no idea of such a wicked act by this gang, who falsely claimed that, as a politician, I had sufficient funds to secure my daughter's release.
He added: “We have received threats warning us not to involve the police. But as a family we are deeply distressed and have no choice but to seek help from the authorities. I implore the diligent officers of the Nigeria Police Force to take swift action to locate these culprits. Their threats indicate that they are seeking ransom, putting our lives in danger.”
The distraught father also appealed to the police to help secure his residence due to the threats.
“The situation traumatized my family. I sincerely call for immediate intervention to bring these criminals to justice and ensure our safety,” she added.
